Health & Fitness Trivia – Fri Sept 7th 2012

Now that we have established that it is wise to fuel up before a workout, let’s move on to another common question I get asked by people. “What should I eat before a workout?” and “How long before a workout should I eat?”

Pre and post workout nutrition are very important meals, almost more important than breakfast. Getting the right type of nutrients into your body will actually optimize the effects of whatever exercise you have done that day. So what to eat beforehand?

a) a generous size salad with many greens and veggies 30 minutes before

b) a 3-5oz steak with a little bit of mashed potatoes 30-45 minutes before

c) a high carbohydrate and protein snack such as greek yogurt with oatmeal and raisins about 45-60 minutes before

d) a handful of nuts

A relatively high carbohydrate, moderate protein, low-fat meal is best to consume before exercise.

    So (c)

    • Rishabh, Absolutely correct Mr. Fitness. And any fat that is in the pre-work out must be a good fat such as coconut oil, avocado, almonds! I owe you a shirt! I will email you at the address you entered. Keep up the participation here 🙂

I say the snack. You don’t want to be processing steak during a workout, and the salad does not have enough carbs nor calories.
